Among the various properties of TiO2 in nanoparticles there is the superhydrophilicity. In the surface of a superhydrophilic material, the contact angle between the water drop and the surface is less than 10 degrees. This kind of surface doesn't allow the formation of isolated drops wich remain stopped in, and water forms a continous film which runs out fastly. Moreover, this film has good cleaning properties, since water, also without tensioactive materials solved in, detaches dirty deposits simply by her interposing between the deposits and the surface. A superhydrophilic float glass is very useful in a large variety of uses, expecially for safety, hygiene and when the surface position is difficult for cleaning operations
Colorobbia Italia, with her Ce.Ri.Col. branch, have studied a new system for obtaining a superhydrophilic surface in a float glass. The research has been made with a Tuscan company , specialized in glass bending and glass for architectural design.
The research has been made in both the companies: Ce.Ri.Col. has developed the materials, while their application has been tested in the customer laboratories, wich are expecially designed for thermical glass treatment. The nanocoating has been applied either with aerographer and with the doctor blade system, and various types of suspencion and thermal treatments has been used for understanding the better application. The paint tickness is very low, so there are no interferences with glass transparency and colour.
We have obtained, after a right thermal cycle, a very good result, since we have reached a q angle less than 8 degrees (and down to less than 5 degrees!), either with aerographer and with doctor blade system. This value is located in the better belt of the market. Another great victory for Ce.Ri.Col. Scientific Team!
